Never heard of it? Here is the scoop. You may have been hearing about "upfront week" (that was last week) and how network chieftains whittle down their pilots to unveil (with as much hoopla as possible) which will make it to their fall schedules.
Acceptable.TV takes it from a different angle. VH1 airs 5 different pilots weekly and then uploads them to Acceptable.TV. Viewers are asked to act as the network executive and go online to vote for their favorites, with the two most popular returning the next week with new episodes. The three episodes with the fewest votes get canceled and are replaced by three new pilots.
In addition to the five professionally produced shorts airing each week, one user-generated short, as voted on at Acceptable.TV, will also air.
I have never tried it, but it would be nice to know if any of you have and what you think about it. Maybe someday we can just turn the whole Network Executive job function over to the people. I doubt we could do worse.
