AOL offers movie downloads, sort of
Filed in archive Internet TV on August 25, 2006
Much is being made of the news that AOL has started selling downloads of full-length movies from four studios--20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. If you want to check it out click here.
Fred McIntyre, vice president of AOL Video, said the company intends to pursue more deals with movie studios as it continues to build out its video portal, which officially launched earlier this month. "Our goal is to be the place that people think about when they want to find video online," McIntyre said.
I checked it out and was less than thrilled. It appears to me that AOL has a storefront deal with Movielink to sell their video. Not only is AOL using Movielink to manage the download and the viewer, but you will find the exact same selection of titles.
So much for cutting edge.
