Direct TV and the Battle of Local Channels
It has long been an argument by those that insist on sticking with cable that they stick with it because of the local channels. Fortunately Direct TV channels and similar providers have smashed this belief with widely available local channels.
Local channels are now offered by most satellite providers in practically all major cities. Even cities that are near major metropolitan areas often get semi-local channels by feeding off of their nearest metropolitan area. The price for adding local channels to a satellite package is minimal and often remains below the cost of cable television. Cable television is after all notorious for offering fewer channels and being more expensive than satellite TV.
With the wide availability of local channels, low monthly costs, and wider availability satellite television is killing their cable competition. Where satellite television continues to stay ahead of the digital age with constant increase in performance, cable television continues to fall behind. Local channels are just another great feature of Direct satellite TV.
