DirectTV to offer over 100 HD channels

DirectTV to offer over 100 HD channels

I am out of sync with a majority of people over high-definition television (HD). For me, I give extra Credence to television providers who will give me more HD but studies claim that something like 7 or 8 percent of us fall in that category.

But I will soldier on, bravely seeking out HD options. So, in that vein, I report that DirecTV CEO, Chase Carey, announced at the CES show that they are on track to launch over 100 channels of HD programming this year. The satellite operator already has agreements for 70 HD channels. DirecTV already provides most broadcast network programming in HD by carrying local broadcast signals.

He also said that DirecTV will expand its on-demand programming using a broadband connection to its set-top, and offer multiple camera views during NASCAR coverage this season. It also announced that it will start a new professional sports league for video gaming, which it will broadcast regularly on its "DirecTV 101" service.
