FED is DE(a)D

Well, not exaclty, but FED (Field Emission Display), a technology which combines the best bits of CRTs (contrast ratio, image quality) with the thinness of LCDs and plasmas has just took a big blow as Sony has bowed out of research, citing lack of funding as their reasoning.

It's a real shame; if Plasma dies out, and nobody makes FED, where will those who CARE about quality go? OLED? Perhaps....
