Hurley and Google are not singing from the same playbook
I might be schizophrenic … wait, no I'm not!
Last weekend, YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley said that the company was going to share ad revenue with content contributors. This would make them more like Metacafe and Revver. In a BBC interview he also said the site may begin running three-second spots before videos.
Ah, but YouTube is now part of the Google Empire and things are not so straightforward anymore.
Penry Price, Director of North American sales for Google said this week that "we don't believe in pre-rolls." He said Google is currently testing other methods of serving video ads, including postroll ads and interstitials, but hasn't yet settled on a monetization scheme for YouTube.
