Is Disney near a VOD deal with Comcast and Time Warner?
Filed in archive Video on Demand on November 2, 2006
According to the LA Times, Disney is said to be near concluding a deal with Comcast and Time Warner.
The most important portions of that deal include the mundane (at least mundane to us normal folks) details about carriage fees and having Comcast buyout Disney's portion of the E! channel.
Of interest to this column is that they are also talking about what content Comcast and Time Warner can offer on VOD. "Both cable companies want to offer ABC television shows on their video-on-demand services for 99 cents an episode, as Apple Computer's iTunes does. And both want to test the offering of movies-on-demand the same day titles hit the rental market."
Obviously, if you are Blockbuster, you hate that outcome. I wonder how thrilled Steve Jobs is. But the rest of us might benefit from easier access to Disney's content. When any news is final, I'll be sure to post it at this weblog.
