KOL and DIC on CBS

KOL and DIC on CBS

Do you think that the road between television and the Internet is a one way street in terms of who creates shows and who covets showing it? There is a story out today that demonstrates that that road may become a two-way street.

KOL is an AOL unit devoted to programming online fare for children. KOL and DIC Entertainment have struck a deal to produce a three-hour block of children's TV shows to run Saturday morning on CBS with strong online media tie-ins.

Programs will focus on health, nutrition, and activity. The roster includes three original shows: the video game spin-off "Dance Revolution," "CAKE" (described as "Martha Stewart for kids") and "Horseland."

DIC has a library of animated series with titles including "Inspector Gadget", "Strawberry Shortcake", "Sabrina", "Madeline", "Liberty's Kids", "Where On Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?", "Sonic The Hedgehog", "Super Mario Bros", "Care Bears" and "Trollz".

The shows also will be available on demand online, along with Web-only add-ons, such as behind-the-scenes clips and program-related games. KOL also will use the "Natasha" character for public service announcements promoting nutrition.

Advertising products will be tightly integrated across the broadcast and online properties. DIC and KOL said they are also developing shows for 2007.
