MarketWatch Founder Is Hired To Head CBS's Digital Media Unit

Filed in archive IPTV

Here we have another potential provider of conent for IPTV and VOD. It would seem that businesses that have a plan that can reward Viacom with a revenue stream just might get access to it.

This blurb was small and showing on page B3 of the Wall Street Journal. It just might have been missed:

Viacom Inc.'s CBS named Larry Kramer, founder of MarketWatch Inc., to run a digital media unit housing CBS's Internet properties. Mr. Kramer, 54 years old, also will be in charge of creating content for the Internet and wireless worlds in coordination with CBS's entertainment, news and sports units.

Media companies have shown renewed interest in digital media, sparked by growth in online advertising.

Mr. Kramer joins CBS after the sale of MarketWatch to Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, for $528 million. "We have a ton of great video and I think this is going to be a growing market," Mr. Kramer said. He will report to Viacom Co-President and CBS Chairman Leslie Moonves.
