MTV Arabiya lives!
In a move sure to please Islamic fundamentalists and radicals, Viacom is working to create a version of MTV in Arabic for the youth market in the Middle East. To do this, they've signed a deal with Dubai-based startup Arabianlinks Television Network.

The new channel is called MTV Arabiya. They plan to broadcast a mix of music videos, MTV programming and locally produced shows. The goal is to launch the channel in the second half of 2007.

According to Variety, MTV "will confront conservative local sensibilities and will likely have to censor videos U.S. audiences would find quite tame."
