MTV Networks will create 20 hyper-programmed verticals

Filed in archive Internet TV by martino on November 30, 2006

no truth to the rumor that a consultant originally proposed saying that 'hyper-programmed verticals leverage enterprise-wide assets across a synchronized supply chain.'

MTV Networks plans to roll out some 20 "hyper-programmed" broadband channels by mid-year 2007. What's a hyper-programmed vertical you may ask? This: a super-focused, niche channel that caters to a specific, narrow interest.

Several of the sites are tied specifically to TV shows, aimed at providing their fans with a more comprehensive experience on the Web. For example, it is developing "Web Junk," which will be a companion channel to the VH1 show, "Web Junk 20," where users can see breaking Web clips. In another example, "My Super Sweet Sixteen" show, will extend online with a site where users will upload photos and video from their most elaborate parties.

Separate sites will focus on classic rock, hip-hop and country music genres. An "Eyecandy" site will focus on pop-culture photo and video, a "Lists & Lists" site on list making and a "Faith & spiritualitylinks" site on those issues.
