MTV, Vice Partner For New Broadband Channel

Earlier in the week, MTV announced it would lay off 250 people. Normally, not a story to yap about here. But Friday, MTV showed how important the Internet is after shifting more resources to broadband while cutting people offline.

MTV is launching a new broadband channel in partnership with a Vice – a magazine that promises "edgy and raw" programming aimed at the 18- to-34-year-old male audience. It is at www.vbs.tv.

Online Media Daily said something about this news being posted on a blog and forced off because the site has not yet been formally launched.

The "About" section on VBS boasts prominent independent film director Spike Jonze as its creative director, and modestly asserts that "VBS will exploit every utopian vision the Internet has thus far failed to live up to."
