Netflix recently announced their plans to offer millions of subscribers a television set-top box option to watch downloaded movies without involving the post office. This seems kind of awkward since receiving movies by mail is their current business model. Maybe the recent flow of postal rate increases has something to do with the recent announcement to cut out the middle man.
On 5/27/08, Netflix will begin marketing a $99 device designed buy Roku, a Silicon Valley company start-up known for its Internet music players. According to an article in the New York Times, the device will allow customers to play thousands of movies and shows on their televisions instantly, for no charge beyond their normal subscription fee.
Are you a Netflix subscriber? Have you started getting marketing collateral for this new product? Will you even use it? Please comment back and let us know.

I ordered one on day one, received it and set it up (HDMI) in about 5-10 minutes. It is truly great. True, the selection is limited, but the quality and number of good offerings is just wonderful. My wife loves many of the older films so she thinks this is just one of the best (tech) items, of hundreds, I've purchased. I hope the business model and the ISPs allows this and similar designs flourish!!!!!!!!!!
