Paramount Pictures will officially be in the Blu-ray business on new release Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Last year they boasted themselves as an 'HD DVD only' home videolinks format provider.

According to a Reuters release, Paramount's first entries into the Blu-ray disc market will come in the form of three catalog titles - "Face/Off," "Next" and the "Bee Movie." The sleeper hits "Cloverfield" and "There Will Be Blood" will be released on Blu-ray Disc on June 3.

Paramount and Warner home Video were initially the only two studios that supported both formats but, a sweet $50 million payment turned Paramount HD DVD exclusive overnight. For over a year, Toshiba's HD DVD and Blu-ray have battled for position until Toshiba recently threw in the towel.

Which format do you like better? Was HD DVD's life cut short before its time?
