Type of YouTube Revenue Model that US Internet Users Would Tolerate
Filed in archive Internet TV on December 15, 2006
I borrowed the following wired magazine graph from Ian Schafer.

I know that Google wants to monetize YouTube through some form of advertising. But what really surprises me is that 6% of the people would even have voted for a subscription fee to watch YouTube!

As Gary pointed out banner ads are basically useless and even worse many people directly link to You Tube videos on forums or posts. Pre-roll ads make the most sense advertising wise because they are harder to ignore and linking sites also get the ads. Most online companies with videos use the pre-roll ads and I am sure that is what Google will do, along with banner/text ads too.

Quick introduction

The short pre-roll makes the most sense to me.
As far as the 10% that say they'll go somewhere else if ads are used, they'll find the same thing anywhere else eventually. No business can afford over a long period of time to spend through money with no return.
While banner ads are still useful for branding, they are pretty much useless as a click-through tool.
