Vegetarians Object to Nickelodeon’s Mr. Meaty

The shows tagline: "All God's creatures fresh off the Grill."

"Mr. Meaty" — a new hit show on Nickelodeon — is already a hit with kids 2-11, ranking in the top 11 on cable and broadcast its first two weeks. I have included Mr. Meaty's second episode below for your viewing pleasure.

In our new media world where television and the Internet now intermingle like never before, Nickelodeon first put some shorts on its broadband site, TurboNick,. Apparently, they were such a success that the network asked series creators Jamie Shannon and Jason Hopley to do a half-hour series.

As you might expect, vegetarians and animal lovers find none of this funny. But we do live in times where political correctness is king, so they are demanding that the show be cancelled. The show has been hotly debated in various vegetarian and TV chat rooms.

"It's really horrible and I can't stand how discriminatory that is against vegetarians and vegans. It's just so sick," reads one petition at petitiononline.com, which has 149 signatures.

Mr. Meaty is a great show and I hope more people become vegetarian so I don’t have to wait so long in the line at Chipotle. Mmmmmmm, Carnitas!

It’s important to note that Shannon and Hopley, in the sort of obligatory statement to be expected when content offends, say the series is intended as a spoof of the fast food industry and not a slight to vegetarians.

I thought revenge of of the vegan was funny. And I am a vegan. “You’re as pale as tofu, and I EAT TOFU!!” LOL I almost died when I saw that.
