What is the total audience size when a program airs simultaneously on television and online?

(excerpt from the Wall Street Journal)
Since the official start of the season with katie couric as anchor, the "CBS Evening News" has drawn a nightly average of 7.4 million viewers — on television.
But that estimate doesn't include the number of people tuning into the live Webcast on CBSNews.com, available since Ms. Couric joined the program.
That figure, however, isn't widely tracked. For advertisers wanting to compare the "CBS Evening News" to other newscasts — which don't stream live on the Web — the main source of the information is CBS itself. The network gives the data to advertisers but won't release the information publicly.
